To Seal or not to Seal

Porcelain tiles and glass mosaics are mostly impervious and should never require sealing, some polished porcelains however may be susceptible to minor staining. All Natural stones however are porous to some degree thus leaving them susceptible to oil and water-born staining. Staining can permanently ruin the look of your stone and ruin your stone’s overall appearance. A good Penetrating sealer will penetrate the stone and form a protective layer just below the surface stopping these stains from soaking deeper into the stone. This will make any staining easier to remove and help maintain your stone’s beautiful appearance with a regular cleaning schedule for many years to come. A good sealer will also help to prevent such things as Salt Attack when laid in a high salt environment and reduce efflorescence which can occur through a capillary action from a concrete slab or screed below the stone. Penetrating sealers can last many years depending on the situation and will not change the appearance or texture of your stone.
